My foremost research objectives are oriented towards understanding the biogeochemical transformation and cycling of energy, water, carbon, nitrogen and other elements in natural and climatically impacted mire ecosystems. More specifically, I am trying to identify microbial and physico-chemical mechanisms involved in the transformation and re-cycling of elements, and their environmental controls across various spatio-temporal scales ranging from the molecular to ecosystem levels. Much of my present research is focusing on: 1) the ecological factors that are related to the performance of aerobic (especially methanotrophic) and anaerobic (especially methanogenic) respiration processes, and expressed in terms of surface and in-depth GHGs productions, and 2) the identification of physico-chemical mechanisms and thresholds leading to these performances.
